McMICKEN, ALEXANDER, businessman, secret service agent, politician, and magistrate; b. 27 Aug. 1837 in Queenston, Upper Canada, son of Gilbert McMicken* and Ann Theresa Duff; m. 1 Sept. 1859 Margaret Sarah Johnston in Niagara (Niagara-on-the-Lake), Upper Canada; d. 29 July 1916 in Winnipeg
McMICKEN, CHARLES, 2nd great grandson of Thomas MacMickin & Grizel Craufiurd, born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in 1782, Charles McMicken was raised on the family farm in the pattern of most pioneer youth, learning the lessons of hard work, economy, and skills such as surveying. He was an enormously successful businessman leaving an estate of over $1 Million Dollars in 1878. He left the bulk of his estate (est. $900,000) in trust for the building of a school from which the University of Cincinatti arose. McMicken College is named in his honour.
BASTEDO, FRANK LINDSAY, (1886 – 1973), 2nd great grandson of Elizabeth McMicking & David Tice Bastedo, was the 11th Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. He is notable for being one of the few Canadian vice-regal representatives to refuse to give royal assent to a legislative bill.
McMICKEN, GILBERT, 2nd great grandson of Thomas MacMickin & Elizabeth McHarg, born at Wigtonshire, Scotland on 13 October 1813, son of Gilbert McMicken. He emigrated to Canada in July 1832. He represented Welland in the Assembly of Canada from 1857 to 1861. In 1864 he was appointed Stipendiary Magistrate for Canada West and was active in quelling Fenian uprisings while Commissioner of Police for the Dominion which later became CSIS (Canadian Security and Inteligence Service).
McMCIKING, GILBERT, born 1788-1790 in Stamford, Upper Canada to Peter McMicking and his wife Agnes. He was the youngest of four children and the only son born on Canadian soil.
He represented the 4th riding of Lincoln in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1834 to 1841 as a Reformer and was reported as being a close friend to John A MacDonald.
McMICKING, HELEN MARY, born 13 of May 1852 in Miltonise, Scotland to Gilbert and Helen (nee McFarlane) McMicking. She died 11 of June 1919 in Edinburgh. Her siblings include Thomas George Torrance McMicking (b.1853), the grandfather of Joseph R. McMicking of Manila, Philippines and Major Gilbert McMicking, MP (Glasgow) (b.1862).
MAHONY, JOHN KEEFER, VC - great grandson of Sarah Catherine McMicking & John Keefer, is a Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to Canadian, British and Commonwealth forces.
McMICKING, JOSEPH RAFAEL. born in 1908 in Manila, Philippines to Jose (Joseph Sr.) McMicking and Angelina Joaquiin de Ynchausti. He was the grandson of Thomas George Torrance McMicking and the great grandson of Gilbert McMicking of Miltonise and Helen MacFarlane. During World War II, Joseph R McMicking was a member of the small group of staff officers ordered to leave Corregidor with General Douglas MacArthur, and was a member of MacArthur's staff in Brisbane, Australia where he served as an intelligence Officer.
STARTIN, JAMES, born on May 20, 1855 in Hounslow, Middlesex, England. He married Alice McMicking, the daughter of Gilbert McMicking of Miltonise and Helen MacFarlane in 1889. He had four children, the youngest of which, Harry Jr., wasa Canadian citizen and served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 19 September, 1911, and ointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1914.
PINSENT, MATTHEW CLIVE, CBE (born 10 October 1970), son of Jean Grizel McMicking & Rev Ewan MacPherson Pinsent, is an English rower and broadcaster. During his rowing career, he won 10 world championship gold medals and four consecutive Olympic gold medals, of which three were with Steve Redgrave. Since retiring, he has worked as a sports broadcaster with the BBC
McMICKING, MARGARET (NEE LEIGHTON), wife of Robert Burns McMicking, was involved in many aspects of community life in Victoria. She helped create or was an integral member of the Local Council of Women, Friendly Help, the Victoria Literary Society, the King's Daughters, the Burn's Club, the Historical Society, the Alexandra Club, the Authors' Club, the Navy League, and the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire.

McMICKING, ROBERT BURNS, was the son of William McMicking and Mary McClellan and brother of Thomas McMicking of Overlanders fame. He was the man who brought the first public telephone service to British Columbia making Victoria the third city in Canada to enjoy the discovery. In 1878 he introduced the telephone, installing one set in his home, another in his office and a third in a newspaper office. This led to the formation in 1880 of Victoria and Esquimalt Telephone Company which today is the B.C. Telephone Company. He was manager until his retirement in 1914.
MacMICKING, (McMICKING) ROBERT, born August 12, 1826 at Miltonise,Wigtonshire, Scotland; educated at Aberdeen, died June 7, 1908 at Manus, Upper Murray, New South Wales, Australia. He was the youngest child and son of Thomas McMicking of Miltonise and Jane Morin and the great grandson of Thomas MacMickin(g) and Elizabeth McHarg, whose ancestors comprise most of the McMicking family in Canada, USA and Australia.
MACLELLAN, ROBERT ROY "ROB" CAMERON, son of Amy Catherine McMicking & James Maclellan, was born 8 March 1934 and is a former Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, representing the seats of Gippsland West (1970–76), Berwick (1976–92) and Pakenham (1992–2002). He was Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party from 1982 to 1985.
BRICE, SUSAN MARY (NEE MCMICKING) is the daughter of Roderick Bruce McMicking and Lilian McCall. She was first elected to Saanich council in 2005. Chair of the Saanich Environmental Advisory Committee, and past chair of Healthy Saanich and Saanich Environment Committee. Director at the Capital Regional District and member of the CRD Traffic Safety Commission. Previously the mayor of Oak Bay, from 1985-1990, as well as a former Saanich South MLA (2001-2005).
DENMAN, THOMAS (1874-1954), governor-general, was born on 16 November 1874 in London, son of Richard Denman, assistant clerk of assize, and his wife Helen Mary McMicking.
A Liberal, Denman was chief government whip in the House of Lords in 1907-11. His appointment as governor-general of Australia was announced in March 1911 and he was appointed G.C.M.G.
McMICKING, THOMAS, gold-seeker, municipal official, and author; b. 16 April 1829 in Stamford Township (city of Niagara Falls), Upper Canada, eldest son of William McMicking and Mary McClellan; m. 12 July 1853 Laura Chubbock, and they had two girls and two boys; d. 25 Aug. 1866 near New Westminster, B.C. Thomas was leader of the famed Overlanders of '62.
MCMICKING, THOMAS NEIL, elder son of Major General Neil McMicking, CB, CBE, DSO, MC, DL, was educated at Eton and joined the Black Watch as a private in 1950. He went to Sandhurst in 1951 and was commissioned in 1952.
